Tell us about yourself

Hello! I’m Sam Bennett, a portrait and wedding photographer. I’ve been photographing weddings since I was 16 so almost as long as I haven’t been!

I always wanted to become a photographer and despite teachers telling me to aim for something other than weddings, I always loved the idea of capturing emotion at weddings in a documentary way. I like to try things a little bit different from what teachers and other people may consider the norm for wedding photography.

I got started by photographing family friends’ weddings and events until strangers liked my work enough to book me!

How would you describe your photography style?

I’d describe my style as natural documentary and my approach as relaxed and organised.

I always appreciate how important the photos are but equally how much you may not want to spend the whole day taking them! So I always like to get the important family and couple photos done as quickly but efficiently as possible. Then I can spend the rest of the wedding day capturing natural moments as they happen.

What advice would you give our couples?

Advice I would give to any couples planning their wedding would be to take a bit of time to yourselves at one point of the day; you will be pulled pillar to post.

Leave enough time in the getting ready period for portraits, any reveals, any TikToks, photos in robes/pj’s, when hair and make up is finished, touch ups for hair and make up, getting to the ceremony, and lastly speaking to the registrar.

What is one thing that makes you happy?

What makes me happy is quite simple – photography and travel. I love to see and explore new places, relax by the sea, and photograph while I’m doing it.

Who do you love most about your job?

I love weddings. I love how they’re filled with positive vibes and so much love. I love being able to capture this with my job and meeting so many new people along the way.

I like to think I’ve made so many new friends doing this and love that I was able to capture and spend their big day with them!

What wedding trends are you loving right now?

Wedding trends I’m loving at the moment include sustainability, epic floral creations, neon signs, and photos of bouquets around the head!

Why should our couples choose you as their photographer?

I think Huntsmill couples should choose me to photograph their wedding because I love my job and still feel completely inspired shooting at the gorgeous Huntsmill Farm.

I would have to say what makes me unique should hopefully be seen through my photographs themselves! I will sum up with a quote I recently saw that I’m always conscious of, “The photographs are about the wedding, the wedding is not about the photographs”.

What is your go-to drink?

My drink of choice is Pepsi Max, so add ‘photographer drinking Pepsi Max’ to your wedding bingo card and it’ll be there every time.

Who is your dream celebrity wedding couple?

My dream celebrity wedding couple would probably be one of my favourite singers like Vance Joy, Cody Simpson, or Ben Howard! (in the hope that they play music that’s up my street too!)
