Sustainable Wedding Ideas: 5 Ways Huntsmill Farm Makes It Easy

_December 16

Your Sustainable Wedding Starts Here

At Huntsmill Farm, we believe your big day should be unforgettable and eco-friendly. Here are five ways we make sustainability effortless.

1. Bringing Solar Power to Your Sustainable Wedding

At Huntsmill Farm, our solar panels aren’t just for show. They’re a big part of how we keep your celebration sustainable. Since installing our battery system in July 2023, 49% of our energy has come from onsite renewables, reducing our reliance on the grid.

In 2024 alone, we generated 45.2 MWh of electricity:

  • 53% used directly at the venue
  • 11% stored in batteries for later use
  • 36% exported back to the grid

Our best months? June and July, when we produced 78% of our own energy needs, and on five days, we were completely self-sufficient. Your wedding is literally powered by the sun!

2. Recycling and Composting made simple

Every cottage has recycling bins for glass, paper, and food waste, making it easy for you and your guests to do your bit. Plus, our three‑stage composting system turns garden waste into nutrient‑rich compost for our grounds, so nothing goes to waste.

And when it comes to cleaning, we only use eco-friendly cleaning products in our cottages, so even the little details support your sustainable wedding.

3. Eco-friendly Suppliers and Local Partnerships

We only work with suppliers who share our sustainability ethos.

We champion ethical bridal fashion through Love & Loved boutique, featuring British‑made dresses from designers who prioritise sustainable materials, ethical practices, and female‑led businesses.

Our trusted florist, Greenery, offers homegrown and British‑sourced blooms, seasonal arrangements, and eco‑friendly alternatives to traditional floral materials. Choosing these suppliers means your wedding supports local businesses, reduces transport emissions, and champions ethical, planet‑friendly practices without compromising on style.

4. Beautiful Décor, Without the Waste

Your Wedding décor doesn’t have to be brand new to be beautiful. At Huntsmill Farm, we encourage couples to give items a second life through our private Facebook group, where you can buy or sell décor from past weddings. It’s a brilliant way to save money, reduce waste, and keep things sustainable all while adding unique touches with pre-loved pieces.

5. Supporting Community and Sustainable Projects

Through the MK Community Foundation Environment Fund, we donate a percentage of our turnover to local sustainability projects. Every wedding here contributes to protecting nature and supporting grassroots initiatives. Check out our latest blog for more information about the MK Community Foundation.
