Tell us about yourself
Hello! We are Jessica & Tom Answer, owners of The Vintage Suit Hire Company.
How did you get started?
The idea of setting up Vintage Suit Hire was born from our own experiences when we were getting ready to wed back in 2011. We wanted our wedding to be a day that reflected our own tastes for all things vintage, retro and handmade.
From day one, Tom knew he didn’t want to get married in a morning suit, as that just wasn’t his style, but even after considerable searching, he found the opportunities to hire something a little off-beat either non-existent or horrendously expensive. From that day, we vowed to set up a business that allows grooms to hire suits that actually fit in with their style and personality (in the way that brides are very much able to), and at a price that won’t break the budget – and thus The Vintage Suit Hire Company is born.
Tom has a degree in Fashion and has worked for brands such as White Stuff and ASOS, and Jessica worked in Supply Chain Management and studied Design, which has allowed us to create a range of men’s suits that can be dressed up to be very formal, or dressed down for a more fun and alternative look.

What is your style? Do you have a specific style?
We are both really into both vintage and modern clothing with has a heritage twist, we also ride retro motorbikes and have a clothing brand called Boyds of Bedford so you can usually find us in our original designs.
What advice would you give couples when choosing their wedding suits?
First and foremost we recommend you do you! Unless its specifically themed, we suggest you don’t go too far away from who you are as people with regards to your style and taste. A wedding showcases who you two are as a couple so if it doesn’t reflect that, it may not feel authentic. You have to feel comfortable and do what works for you. We fully support any direction our couples want to go in; big and tiny, grand or relaxed.
What do you love most about your job?
The moment our grooms are in their chosen suit, looking in the mirror, thinking heck yes this is how I want to look on the big day, that’s priceless to us. We also love when our couples send us pictures and postcards after the wedding so we can see how everything came together.
What trends are you loving at the moment?
We can’t get enough of botanical weddings which really draw nature into the wedding with a pop of colour; give us his ‘n’ hers peacock chairs as thrones for the couple and we are loving it.

Why should our couples choose you? What makes you unique? What’s your motto?
We aren’t a transactional company, if you’re coming to us, the chances are that you are looking for something a little different and all of us at VSHC have our own style and personality. From start to finish it’s a small team that will look after you, and we care about how you and everyone looks in your group, so if we think a trouser length looks a tad long we’ll offer expert advice about how it should look, and it’s these little touches like that make a big impact and in years to come you’ll look back at your photos and you won’t think “Oh Uncle Dave looks scruffy!”
What’s your drink of choice?
You can’t beat an Old Fashioned with decent whiskey and a twist of orange peel, naturally.
