Here’s the next instalment of our real couple feature all about the upcoming wedding of Laura and Chris. It’s very topical as it features one of our open days and we happen to have one this Sunday! I’ll pass over to Laura in a second but first Henry wants me to inform you all that the tractor is in fact orange, not red (I personally think it looks red but apparently I am wrong)!
Telling friends and family
So our wedding story began by setting the date. (No proposal at this point… that comes later – modern day relationships eh?) Ruth and Henry were holding their first wedding fair since renovating the barn. Being in the wedding business myself, as well as wanting to support them, I managed to persuade Christopher to come along!
Now this was the most beautiful sunny October and the farm just looked stunning! When we were looking around I immediately fell in love with the venue and knew this was where I wanted to marry the man I love. Emily was having a whale of a time bouncing on the beds (sorry guys) and Christopher looked like he was enjoying himself too. That tractor is a real favourite – having to get a photo of little lady on it every time now!
Orange sticker
We were just talking to Ruth about how well the fair seemed to be going and she jokingly asked us if she could ‘orange sticker’ our date… in other words book our wedding! Laughing it off in the moment, it did actually get us talking about marriage and what each other was thinking of. Never really had ‘that’ discussion before!
We continued to walk around the cottages, and it got us thinking. The venue ticked every box. It was local – bearing in mind I wanted the ceremony at my childhood church. It was the right budget (roughly speaking due to the fact we hadn’t ever talked about a budget). It had accommodation great for a large family and getting those all important getting ready photos! When you dream of your wedding day you always have something in mind and as I’ve seen many weddings whilst working I knew what sort of day I would like. Thankfully Christopher agreed – PHEW could have been awkward! So when Ruth asked again we said let’s do it and picked a date, it just felt right.
The big reveal
Wanting to tell our parents first we arranged to see my Mum and Christopher’s parents. Of course they were over the moon with the news! Then I came up with a plan to tell friends and family and decided to make our save the dates as the announcement. Ruth was an absolute star and didn’t give anything away!!! My bridesmaids (who of course I have had picked out long before we had a date) got a little box gift asking them to be next to me on the big day. Our friends got the save the dates that I made. It was so magical to see their faces as they realised what it all was. Finally we made it ‘facebook official’. I made a sign and got little lady to pose for us on that infamous red tractor!
And that was it! Date set, everyone knew and all the other little details would fall into place. You know like actually getting engaged…
